Using nostalgia as a catalyst, I share my visual and sentimental experience of Black British childhood during the 90’s.
I celebrate youthful memories, one that is tropical and vibrant in colour. With a concept of adornment I showcase how us as black culture choose to express our identity in western society as children.
Creating illustrations, pattern designs, fabric art and accessories, I pay homage to Caribbean and African culture. Whilst sometimes integrating this with the idea of fantasy and a utopian world.
Playing with the concept of adornment, I use a traditional approach when creating; painting, sewing, knitting and embellishment are honed to share this narrative.
